horrid black drop menu google

Google has added a horrid unwanted black drop menu and from the usual
Uncluttered Google chrome home page.
In Google chrome I can’t find a simple way of removing this.

A work around is set the homepage to
http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0&hl=en
