Vista wont boot after installing from recovery DVD’s. Boot screen displays loading bar but never completes.
Booting by pressing F8 and testing boot process, loading stops at crcdisk.sys
I was using Windows XP on my emachines d620 laptop everything was working well.
During a visit to Coffee Bar with a wireless hot spot I noticed someone with the same laptop. We exchanged notes and compared the two computers.
Vista desktop fonts and graphics looked so much better than XP.
I decided to go back to Vista and rebuild my system with the recovery DVD.
After a long wait and lots of rebooting Vista worked fine
Installed a firewall and anti virus.
After using the system most of the day online windows started updating vista.
The recovery dvd installed lots of unwanted trial software, office 2007, games, Norton anti-virus.
Using the uninstall from Vista control panel. Most of the unwanted program were removed.
Norton anti virus seemed to ages to remove the blue progress bar stuck at the right hand side almost 100% removed then froze.
After a reboot Vista would not boot displaying the loading bar but never completed.
Booting by pressing F8 and testing boot process loading stops at crcdisk.sys
Tried recovering by removing the hdd and connecting with usb2 interface to another vista pc and copying sys files made no improvement.
Tried reformatting the hard disk drive with Windows XP full format no errors were found.
I found an old Vista upgrade DVD.
In the Vista Control Panel, SYSTEM I updated the product key from the Windows Vista label on the base of the laptop and checked to make sure activation had completed.
All problems solved.
Service packs 1 & 2 uploaded ok the free editions of zone alarm 8 and AVG 9 installed.
My guess the cyclic redundancy check of the boot sector got corrupted perhaps by one of the service packs. Or perhaps data corruption on the E-machine recovery system.
